What Is GDSN (Global Data Synchronisation Network)?

The Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN) is a GS1-governed network that lets suppliers publish standardized product data to retailers and other trading partners through certified data pools. A supplier loads item data — identification, dimensions, packaging hierarchy, regulatory attributes — into its data pool once; subscribing retailers receive synchronized updates through theirs.

Why it matters

Large retailers, grocers, and healthcare buyers increasingly require GDSN-synchronized item data before they will set up or reorder a product. For suppliers, GDSN turns item setup from a per-retailer form-filling exercise into a publish-once model — but it also raises the bar: the data must be complete, dimensionally accurate, and consistent with what the PIM and ERP say, because retailers validate against it and chargebacks follow when physical cartons contradict published measurements.

How it connects to the rest of the stack
