Inventory Is a Timeline, Not a Number
Available, reserved, in-transit, receiving, quarantined, and sellable inventory are different operational states, not alternate labels.

Order orchestration is the automated coordination of an order's journey across the systems that touch it: validating and enriching the order, sourcing inventory, choosing a fulfillment node, routing to a warehouse or 3PL, handling splits and backorders, reacting to failures, and keeping every stakeholder's view of status consistent. It is the choreography layer between order capture and physical execution.
In a single-channel, single-warehouse business, orchestration is a straight line and nobody names it. Add marketplaces, a dealer program, three fulfillment nodes, and retail dropship, and the straight line becomes a decision tree executed hundreds of times an hour. Encoding those decisions in software — rather than tribal knowledge and manual re-keying — is what makes growth operationally survivable. Honest sourcing decisions also require availability built on inventory as a timeline, not a single stale number.
Integration moves data between systems; orchestration makes decisions along the way. A connector can pass an order to a warehouse; orchestration decides which warehouse, notices the handoff failed, retries, reroutes, and records why — the observable, explainable behavior distinguished in Integration Monitoring Is Not Operational Observability.

A green API call does not prove that the business transaction completed correctly. Monitor outcomes, not only transport.
