Dealer Portals

What Is a Dealer Portal?

A dealer portal is a private B2B interface where a brand's dealers, distributors, or wholesale accounts place orders, check contract pricing, see real inventory availability, track shipments, and download invoices and documents — without phoning a rep or emailing a spreadsheet. It is the wholesale equivalent of the consumer storefront, with requirements the consumer storefront never had.

Why it matters

In many wholesale businesses, ordering still runs on spreadsheets, faxes, and rep phone calls. That process caps how many dealers a team can serve, hides errors until they become chargebacks, and makes pricing disputes unresolvable. A portal moves the workflow into a system that enforces contract terms and exposes order state — but only if it is integrated: pricing from the ERP, availability from inventory systems, order status from the OMS, and product content from the PIM. A portal that shows stale numbers trains dealers to call the rep anyway.

What a credible portal includes

Account-specific catalogs and negotiated pricing, live availability with honest lead times, order templates and quick reorder, approval workflows for sub-accounts, order and shipment tracking, invoice and credit visibility, and self-service documents. The integration behind those features is where portal projects succeed or fail — see PIM, ERP, OMS, WMS: Who Owns What.
